This Day 2 post is focused on serving God in Hebrews 12:28-29. As worshippers, we naturally have a desire to please the heart of God.
How does this verse fit in with worship?
"Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have
grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our
God is a consuming fire" (NKJV, Hebrews 12:28-29)
Hebrews 12:29 reminds me of Leviticus 9:24 where it says, "And fire came out from before the Lord, and consumed upon the burnt offering and the fat on the altar. When all the people saw, they shouted, and fell on their faces" (NKJV, Leviticus 9:23-24). The consumption of the burnt offering was a sign of acceptance by God with His lingering presence staying with His people.
What is the application though in my life, both at church and at home?
It is with a heart of gratitude, respect, awe, fear, and love that I enter into worship, whether on a church platform, at home, in the car, or anywhere I am serving Him. Just like the preparation of the burnt offering, I must daily lay myself as a living sacrifice to be consumed as I serve Him no matter the task to be done. Surrendering all I am with grace for the One who gave it all is the least I can do to bring service that is acceptable.
I invite you to read Hebrews 12:28-29. Bless you today. His mercies are new every morning!
